Description
Since the early 2000s, the Aga Khan Development Network (ADKN) has been one of the major international non-governmental organisations (NGO) operating in Syria, in addition to being of the few to have remained since the conflict began in 2011. Today, the network is mainly known for establishing the First Bank for Microfinance in 2008, Syria’s first microfinance bank, which remains active to this day, and for restoring the historical Aleppo souks in collaboration with Asma Al-Assad’s NGO, Syria Trust for Development.
In this business profile, The Syria Report provides an overview of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and its activities in Syria before and after the conflict.
