Saydaliya, the state-owned company in charge of the import and export of pharmaceutical products, imported USD 44.5 million of pharmaceutical products, reported Tishreen.

Thameco, the state-owned pharmaceutical company, recorded profits of SYP 200 million (USD 4 million), an increase of 5 percent on the previous year record.

Syria imported USD30 million worth of medicines in 2001.

Syria covers now over 87 percent of its needs in medical products with imports totalling USD 30 million from a peak of USD 130 million in the seventies, said Syria's health minister.

The state owned General Organisation for Pharmaceutical Trade (Saydaliya), announced that it had imported US$20 million worth of medicines in the first six months of the year, said Al-Mustaqbal.
