The Syrian authorities are introducing new laws that significantly reduce taxes on individuals and companies. These measures, particularly those targeting businesses, are presented by the government as business-friendly and aimed at reversing old Baathist policies of high taxation. In doing so, the Syrian government is both misleading the public and acting against the country’s economic development needs.
